JAT Holdings Tender bond to be forfeited!

The Attorney General has reportedly informed the Treasury to forfeit the Tender bond of JAT Holdings, which had failed to properly import fertilizer, leading up to a shortage in the country.

Accordingly, a sum of USD 240,000 (Rs. 36 million) will be
forfeited from the company as compensation.

At its meeting on November 21, the cabinet approved giving a tender to JAT Holdings to import 72,000 mt of urea fertilizer.

However, the importation could not take place on time as no foreign supplier had agreed to supply under the DA method, which has resulted in the prevailing shortage.

Even Dayasiri had gone to meet Ganga Maeni

Ganga Sudarshani better known as Ganga Maeni, who portrays herself as a predictor with the gift of foresight has told a weekend publication that the recent losses of the Sri Lankan cricket team was due to black magic done by a foreign country.

Noting that she has made predictions on this regard since 2011, Ms.
Sudarshani says that not a single sports official had heeded to her.

However, she says that the current Sports minister - Dayasiri Jayasekera had visited her and she had told him the adverse effects of this magic can be removed.

She has added that cricket in Sri Lanka is approaching a successful era.

Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' on this regard, a professional in the sport said that if matches can be won merely by the aid of prophecies, training players would not be required.

He added that it was regretful that such myths and beliefs had entered the cricket field as well.

Lasith Malinga to retire after 2019 World Cup

Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga says that he will retire from international cricket after the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

The fast bowler quit Test cricket because of a “long-standing
degenerative condition in the right knee” in 2011, but he continued playing the shorter formats.

One of the best fast bowlers to have ever played for Sri Lanka, Malinga isn’t part of the 23 man squad for the tour to Bangladesh but was present at a special practice session with new coach Chandika Hathurusingha in Colombo.

For the right arm pacer, the 2019 ICC World Cup is his next target, and if he does make it to England, that will be his swansong.

“If they pick me I’m ready, but the reason for why I haven’t been picked is what I’m still waiting for,” Malinga said. “Usually it’s a player who is 25 or 26 that needs to be rested because they still have a lot of cricket left in them. But for someone of my age, from what I know, there’s really no purpose in being rested. We can only play cricket for another one or two years anyway, but if we’re rested then we won’t get to play cricket, so what’s the point?”

Malinga has not played any form of international cricket since the one off T20 against India earlier this year, after which he was mysteriously ‘rested’.

In recent weeks, Malinga has not been his old dangerous self, he has managed just 8 wickets at over eight runs an over in the last 8 innings for the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League. His figures in international cricket haven’t been the greatest either. Since he returned from injury in the beginning of the year, he has 12 wickets to his name in 6 T20 matches, at an economy rate of 8.25. In the ODI format, he has 10 wickets from 13 matches at an economy rate of 6.00.

Since he lost his spot in the Sri Lankan squad, Malinga has been plying his trade in the BPL and has been training domestically with Nondescripts Cricket Club.

Commissioner General of Examinations Sanath Pujitha issued a statement on the divisive statements made by certain politicians and union heads on the difficulty of the 2017 GCE Ordinary Level mathematics examination.

Sanath Pujitha stated that many individuals have come forward to
state that the majority of ordinary level students had extreme difficulties in facing the 2017 mathematics examination as it contained advanced questions that students could not answer with their current level of knowledge.

In light of recent events the Commissioner conducted an inquiry into the many complaints under the purview of the minister of Education.

The Commissioner stated that an expert panel consisting of the examination department, heads of paper marking and senior mathematics instructors were called to resolve the issue.

“At the end of any examination the paper marking panel will collect a sample of answer scripts from all districts to formulate a justifiable cut-off mark that can be agreeable to all students. Taking the current situation into consideration the marking panel collected a larger sample of answer scripts to study the difficulties faced by students. Following a comprehensive survey it was clear that a majority of students did not have extreme difficulties in facing the 2017 mathematics paper” Commissioner Pujitha said.

He however stated that many students were not able to display primary-level competencies by showing working and proof for the final answer that was obtained. Taking the above fact into consideration the department will arrive at a consensus to revise the predetermined minimum passable mark.

Virat Kohli Invites Differently Abled Sri Lankan Cricket Fan Gayan Senanayake For Mumbai Wedding Reception

Sri Lankan cricket fan Gayan Senanayake had the privilege of attending the wedding reception of Indian captain Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma.

Senanayake took part in the reception following an invitation by Kohli.

Senanayake was in Mumbai supporting the Sri Lankan team
playing a bilateral series against India.

Senanayake is a common feature in all matches played by Sri Lanka, both at home and overseas.

During the reception, the differently-abled Sri Lankan cricket fan was seen enjoying the company of some distinguished guests, including former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's final wedding function was held today at Mumbai's St. Regis.

Soon after guests started arriving, Virat and Anushka made a stunning appearance in Sabyasachi couture, according to NDTV.
