Dates for postal voting of 2023 LG election announced

The Election Commission has announced the dates on which the postal voting for the 2023 Local Government election would be held.

Accordingly, the postal voting is scheduled to be held on February 22, 23 and 24.

Accepting applications for the postal voting ended at midnight on January 23 after the process began on January 05.
 

Meanwhile, the cash deposits were accepted until January 20, followed by the deadline for submitting nominations for the upcoming election, which was January 21.

On Wednesday (Feb. 01), the election body announced that the 2023 LG election would be held on March 09, from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

More than 80,700 candidates will be contesting for 339 local government bodies at the election.

According to the Election Commission, these candidates belong to 58 registered political parties and 329 independent groups.

Ahead of the election, the People’s Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) set up a special unit to receive complaints against election law violations.

The election monitoring group has urged the members of the public to inform of any incidents of bribing of voters, misuse of public property including resources belonging to local government bodies for election campaigns and promotion of candidates, offering of new appointments, transfers and promotions during the election period.
