Monkey Business in Sri Lanka

As we may inform you time to time, China can be called a country that is not suitable for living not only for humans but also for animals as well. In general, it is fair to say that even their diet is disgusting. The Chinese do not hesitate to eat even the most unpleasant animals that we cannot imagine eating. It is a well-known secret all over the world that they eat monkeys, snakes, worms, frogs, bats, cockroaches, etc.

At the present time, the main topic of discussion, not only in the social media but also among the people is the sending of one hundred thousand monkeys from this country to China. Many environmentalists believe that these monkeys will end up on the plates of Chinese. Although many environmentalists are strongly against this decision, farmers who are suffering from these animal attacks, are very supportive of this decision.

However, no one has revealed any correct information so far about the truth of this “monkey phenomenon” that many people are talking about. Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has recently clarified the reports regarding the importation of one hundred thousand monkeys from Sri Lanka, by issuing a Twitter message.

It stated that no request has been received from any party regarding the importation of one hundred thousand monkeys from Sri Lanka. Also, according to the embassy, The Chinese National Forestry and Grassland Administration, which is the main government department overseeing the import and export of wildlife and plants in China, has informed that they are not aware of any such request.

The embassy also emphasizes that, as a member of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora”, China has adopted the Wildlife Protection Law with several amendments.

The embassy's tweet said, the Chinese government always provides special protection for the safety of wildlife and actively fulfills its international obligations.

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo dismissed the reports today, which says that Sri Lanka is preparing to export "endangered" Toque Macaque monkeys to a Chinese private company for "experimental purposes", as 'false information.'

In a press release, the embassy said the Chinese National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the main government department that oversees and manages the import and export of wildlife and plants, has made it clear that it is not aware of the request and has not received such an application.

The Embassy would like to further emphasize that "as a contracting party to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES), it attaches great importance to wildlife protection and actively fulfills its international obligations, thereby enacting wildlife protection legislation and makes China one of the top countries in the world when it comes to law enforcement.

Earlier, Agriculture Minister Maninda Amaraweera said that he received a request from a private company in China to import about 100,000 Toque Macaque monkeys from Sri Lanka. He said that a committee would be appointed to study the request to find out the feasibility of the request.

However, the embassy stressed that the Chinese authorities have not yet made such a request from any of its parties. If that is the case, what is the drama that the rulers of this country are playing regarding sending these Toque Macaque monkeys to China by holding press conferences, by deceiving the innocent farming community? Who is the mastermind of this process that misleads the people?

What is the reason for the rulers who did not understand the problems of the people for so long; the rulers who did not give proper solutions to those problems, suddenly stand up for the grievances of these farmers? What is the purpose of this conspiracy with China by the rulers who have not opened their eyes to the local farmer for so long? When the rulers say that the animals have been requested from China, it is a matter of suspicion that China has said that no such request has been made. So, who should people believe?

Even though there are good remedies for such problems, why are the rulers so eager to find immediate solutions without doing so? What is the benefit to either party from shipping these monkeys or other animals abroad? Instead of going with the trend and posting on social media for the sake of animals, it's best to find out what's really going on.
